Joseph Stimmel of Varcadipane & Pinnisi, P.C. successfully tried a wage-and-hour case to verdict on behalf of seven employees who were denied earned wages. The jury found that the company principals were statutory “employers” under the New Jersey Wage Payment Law and New Jersey Wage and Hour Law and were personally liable for the plaintiffs’ unpaid wages. Following the verdict, the Court awarded the plaintiffs their unpaid wages and imposed the maximum statutory liquidated damages of 200%, resulting in a judgment totaling $758,573, exclusive of attorneys’ fees and costs. This result demonstrates that corporate officers and business owners can be held personally accountable when employees are unlawfully deprived of wages earned through their work.
